Jesus and Your Job

“Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God.” Colossians 3:22

Dear Friends,

As you well know, the Word of God is an amazing book of principles and morals…but the Bible is also a great guide for the everyday aspects of our lives. One of the areas that God speaks to is how to successfully navigate your Faith and the work place.

The Apostle Paul reminded the new believers in Colosse to make sure that they lived out Christ in their jobs. Even though many of them would remain as “servants” (actually more like employees), they were to honor their supervisors with obedience. There was to be no option in this, other than if they asked them to do something that was clearly against what the Bible taught (Acts 5:29). It would be nice if everyone had the privilege of having a boss who is just like Jesus, but that rarely happens. We are called to submit to managers who are not always as reasonable and as fair as they should be. More often than not, we are called to adverse circumstances and will have to suffer, but our response on the job says a lot about who Jesus Christ is.

When we conduct ourselves with peace, patience and a positive attitude in the work place we display the truth of God’s Word. As our fellow employees see our godly actions we become a living epistle among men.

Serving Jesus Wherever We Are,

Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
