He Giveth His Beloved Sleep

“It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.” Psalms 127:2

Dear Friends,

Most of us will feel stress at some point. When that pressure gets unbearable, we tend to get very agitated in mind, heart and even body. Yes, we are often our own worst enemy. We think we have to handle everything, fix everything and do everything, but God clearly reminds us that as a Christian (one of His beloved) - we are to “sleep.”

Resting doesn’t mean giving up, it doesn’t mean quitting or to stop trying. It just means that after I’ve done everything I can do, just go to sleep and let the Lord handle the situation.

When the strain gets to a point we can’t handle it, we have a tendency to just keep pushing and blowing and going when God tells us to rest in Him. Jesus said that the peacefulness that we get by resting comes from trusting that everything will be okay because we’re learning Christ (Matthew 11:28-30). Our human instinct is to clamor and hammer away, but God wants us to take a step back and find peace in Him.

He Gives His Beloved - Precious Sleep,

Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
