Finding A Doctrinal Truth To Stand On Is Reassuring

September 1, 2016

“And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord,”

Job 1:21

Job got a word from God and held on to it! He testified to himself and others, “God gives, God takes away…it’s His right to do what He wants.” Job reminded himself that God owns everything. Humans own nothing. Everything is God’s and He has the right to do with His stuff or people what He wants.

Loss involves grief, which is a natural response. As I have watched various Christians deal with losses over the years, it seems that too often we do not encourage grief, but instead we praise those who cover their feelings of sorrow. We seem to think that is a measure of their strong faith. We look at others and say, “He is so strong!”  We are afraid to show our grief, thinking we lack trust. As a result, loss is a meaningless storm which causes many believers to blow away from God.

Paul told believers NOT to be tossed about by the storm, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine…” (Eph. 4:14) If you don’t stand on the doctrine of God you will surely fall into the depressing doctrine of devils!

Don’t explain away the hurt. Let the Book of books help you face the pain. Only the Bible gives seeds of hope for rebuilding your life. I simply would not have been able to make it without my Bible. In particular, I found great peace by praying the Psalms back to God. The Psalms are often filled with the raw emotional expressions of faith I was feeling. Verse by verse and out loud I would turn prose into petitions. Good doctrine anchors your soul to the rock when everything seems to be changing around you!
