Sometimes We Don’t Like God’s Solution

“Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.” Hebrews 12:11

Dear Friends,

Most Christians would agree that God answers prayer. At the same time, they would likely add, “Just not the way I thought He would!”

We often come to God with a preconceived idea of how He ought to solve our problem – and sometimes we don’t like God’s solution. The New Testament writer in Hebrews 12:11 said “no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous…” At first, God’s remedy often doesn’t seem pleasant but later on we see that God’s way of answering is indeed best.

We desire freedom from physical pain but God’s plan is often just to give us an extra measure of grace to be able to endure the hurt or heartache. We want a new job but God’s plan is for us to be a light in a dark world. We are prone to want God to fix “it” without “us” having to do anything about ourselves.

George Muller, a great Christian leader in the 1800’s, stated, “We are 90% towards the will of God when we have no will of our own.” Our willingness to accept God’s solution is always best!
