The Sacrifice of Thanksgiving
“I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving”
Psalms 116:17
Dear Friends,
At Thanksgiving, we express gratitude for God's many blessings. This is only right and proper in light of all He has done for us!
But did you ever consider thanking Him for something that doesn't seem like a blessing—such as a trying circumstance you want Him to remove or change? King David or whomever the author of this Psalm was talked of praising God when it was a sacrifice. That is, it was something that cost something.
A grateful heart is most precious to God when, humanly speaking, our situations don't warrant giving thanks. God explained to Moses that this kind of sacrifice would be a “Sweet Savor” to Him – an offering that was not required but deeply appreciated.
When we accept our circumstances as coming from God and truly believe He's working for our good, we then can have a genuine thanksgiving celebration.
Dear friend, why not offer a powerful prayer to God this thanksgiving season: “Lord, I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving. Amen!”
Praising God,
