Informed AND Involved

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”

James 1:22

Dear Friends,

Have you been deceiving yourself about what it means to be a good Christian? Growing in your faith involves far more than just listening to sermons or going to bible studies. The fact is in this modern world we live in with such ready access to information many believers are informed but remain stagnant in their walk. There are two elements necessary for a thriving faith: to be informed AND involved. Hearing is in order to be doing, James reminds us. To be sure, many people are so busy they seldom slow down long enough to hear from God. But an even greater problem is those that are not putting precept into practice.

The Apostle warns of “self-deceit”. The Greek word infers “arguing in your mind”. Sadly, we persuade ourselves with the notion that knowledge is sufficient, though our lives are fruitless of good works. No deception has any more eternal consequences than self-deception. Let’s get informed, yes…but get involved as well!

Hearing and Doing,

Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
