The Fear of the Lord, a Forgotten Truth

“Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.”

Psalm 112:1

Dear Friends,

Would you like to have a great life? Of course you would, I know I do! Then try fearing God. The fear of the Lord is a forgotten, if not shunned, truth in today’s libertine society.

But the fear of the Lord does not have to do with terror, but rather refers to appropriate awe and reverence for who God is. It is a quality that we as Christians should nurture not neglect. Truth is, it’s a great compliment to be known as a God-fearing man or woman.

To fear God leads to all kinds of blessings in the Christian's life. The person who learns to fear God will have a strong family, with children who are courageous for the truth, “His seed shall be mighty upon earth…” (Psalm 112:2). You will prosper in this world, especially in your spiritual life, “Wealth and riches shall be in his house…” (Psalm 112:3). You will find unique comfort in times of adversity, “Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness…” (Psalm 112:4). You will have special wisdom for that which concerns you, “…he will guide his affairs with discretion” (Psalm 112:5).

Friend, why not ask God to help you have a proper, reverential fear of Him. It’s a request I’m sure He’ll be happy to answer.

Fearing the Lord,

Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
