Christmas – While You Think on These Things

“But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.”

Matthew 1:20

Dear Friends,

Christmas is a worldwide annual event filled with many wonderful traditions, but it’s much more than that!

In the gospel of Matthew, it states that Joseph, “thought on these things” (Matthew 1:20). As the Holy Spirit clarified the circumstances he and Mary were facing, he began to realize that Mary’s pregnancy was far more than he had originally thought. In fact, the child in her was named Immanuel, which means “God with us.” On that amazing night, Jesus Christ entered this earth as a human, God in the flesh, giving hope for humankind. Just think about what life would be like without Jesus. Think about what the future would hold without a hope of heaven.

As you plunge into your Christmas gifts, holiday music and good food this year, may ask us all to THINK three things: when you look at the Christmas tree, remember THE TREE, “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree” (Galatians 3:13). When you see the sparkling lights on the tree, think THE LIGHT, “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12). And when you have the privilege of opening up gifts, remember THE GIFT, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

My prayer is that each of you will have a very blessed Christmas Eve and Day and that you will THINK about the message of Christmas!

Thinking About Jesus,

Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
