God’s Grandeur in Nature

February 16, 2020

“The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”

Psalm 24:1

Dear Friends,

          These sure have been beautiful spring days of late, for us here in the San Joaquin Valley! Just amazing…each flower, fluffy cloud and balmy breeze, reminds us of our great Creator.

As Christians, there are no apologies necessary to be made for drawing man’s attention to nature. Some of our great hymns turn our minds toward nature and incline our hearts to praise and worship God. Notice these selected stanzas:

How Great Thou Art (Second Stanza)

When through the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze;
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee; How great Thou art!

When the Christian’s mind turns to nature, his heart turns toward God in worship and praise. But when the unbelieving mind turns to nature, it turns from God. On Earth Day celebrations each year in the public arena, no mention is ever made of God. Tragically, the unbelieving mind sees nature as a god.

During these wonderful spring days, may I encourage each of us to turn our hearts to the Creator and Sustainer of creation? Nature is not independent of its Creator.

How Great Thou Art,

Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
