Developing A Listening Spirit

“To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.”

John 10:3

Dear Friends,

God, the Heavenly Father, speaks personally to His children. He speaks through the written Word – Scripture. To train ourselves to listen carefully we must remember three things:

1. Stay Focused – Most people have busy lives with so much on their plate. It would be easy to let distractions keep us from realizing that God wants to speak to us personally through the Word.

2. Be Diligent – In order to gain a listening spirit, we have to actually be in the Bible reading, studying, meditating and asking the question, “how does this apply to my life?”

3. Respond Immediately – We often struggle with something good and positive because it may be different than we are used to. But we can be sure that the Holy Spirit will never lead us into something that is not for our best or ultimate good, despite how unfamiliar it might be.

Developing a listening spirit takes regular practice. Day after day we must constantly be acquiring, analyzing and applying God’s amazing guide book- the Bible!

A Listening Sheep,
