What a Friend We Have in Jesus

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

John 15:13

Dear Friends

Irish born, Joseph Scriven who wrote the gospel song What a Friend We have in Jesus, was 25 years old, in love and about to be married. The day before his wedding his fiancé died in a tragic drowning accident. This deep adversity along with a sad string of others, allowed Pastor Scriven to understand more fully about the closest friend we will ever have – Jesus Christ! Those who know what it is to be saved understand what a great friend Jesus is, but I think very few understand the depth of His friendship.

Let’s think about some amazing truths together. For one, He is committed to us not only for this life but also for the life to come. He will never leave us no matter what we do. In life, things come and go and people sometimes disappoint us, but Jesus never will.

Another wonderful thing about our best friend is that He knows and cares about our deepest desires and wants to help us meet those needs that are godly. His eyes are always open to our concerns and He is ready to help us any time…day or night…24/7.

When the Apostle John was reminding people of how great Jesus was he simply said, “Greater love hath no man than this…” (John 15:13). So true, there never has been one who loved us so much.

Jesus - The Best Friend Ever!
