Pretend for a Moment That We Had No Bible

“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:”

Romans 1:20

Dear Friends,

Knowing about God and even more, knowing God is an incredible privilege to be sure. Some people, however, imagine that they aren’t as gifted or as full of faith as other people that seem to understand God. The truth however, is that just by looking around at creation we can clearly see the attributes of a creator. It is true that God reveals Himself through the Word of God, but He lets people know who He is in many other ways as well.

Paul reminded us in Romans 1 that as we observe the beauty and the order of creation, we conclude that there is a God! Add to that the intricacies of the human body and other facts of nature and we are left with no other conclusion but that there is a creator.

God also reveals Himself through moral laws. Even if we had never seen a Bible, we have this little voice inside of us that reminds us that there are certain activities that are destructive and wrong and there are other actions that are inherently good and wise. God put those laws into the heart of every man.

To be sure, it is only through the Bible that we get the full picture of whom God is. However, even if we didn’t have a Bible, we would still know that there is a God.

Knowing God,

Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
