What is the Source of Your Joy?

“These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.”
John 15:11
Dear Friends,
Where does your happiness come from – the success of a sports team? Recognition by your peers? Getting everything done on your task list? A new car?
To be sure, there is nothing wrong with any of these accomplishments. In fact, when they’re given to us by God, they are certainly rewarding. But if we depend on a sports team or success to make us happy, we are in for some serious disappointments.
Jesus promised us that His father had joy and was willing to share it. It’s sad that a spirit of joy evades many Christians. According to John chapter 15 the origin of genuine joy has a spiritual source – God. And to be more accurate, God the Holy Spirit. Divine joy exists whether our circumstances produce joy or not.
The Holy Spirit gives us joy as we delight in His Word and spend time in prayer and spiritual things. May I encourage each of us to examine the source of our joy.
