I Vote for Jesus!
“But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.”
Psalm 75:7
Dear Friends,
It's election season for presidential hopefuls and others in America this coming Tuesday. What's the best way for Christians to be involved in the upcoming election?
To be sure, God wants us to do our part to vote as morally as much as possible and to render unto “Caesar” (government) the things that are theirs. We have an amazing privilege in this country to vote. We should value this right and express biblical values by the way we vote.
But we must remember that whoever our next president is, they can’t save us (or “unsave” us). For sure, it's not wrong to hope for change; especially when we see injustice or corruption - we should do what we can to change it. However, we need to understand that our real hope is Jesus. Real change doesn't come from politics, but from Jesus transforming people with His grace and truth!
We should pray for the salvation of our leaders, and we should pray for God to speak to them (1 Tim. 2:1, 2). But politics will never save the world because it can't. No policy, plan, or power can bring true peace and hope to this world.
The darker this old world becomes, the more precious the gospel becomes! As we wrestle with the tough issues of our day, let us be reassured in knowing that at the end of the day it will be God that “sets up” who our next president is.
Resting in Jesus,
Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
