Crutches

“Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved?” Song of Solomon 8:5a

Dear Friends,

Where do you go when things get tough?

We find out about ourselves in the difficult moments of life, when pain exposes who we truly are. When our life is shaken and our strength falters, so many of us just limp along hoping things will eventually get better. We typically try to tough it out rather than taking advantage of someone to lean on.

In the beautiful and poetical Old Testament book - Song of Solomon, the bride, symbolizing us as Christians, leans on her beloved Groom, Jesus. She found that when you are in a wilderness the only way to make it was to depend on the Lord. I’ve had my share of broken bones and surgeries and found that a crutch can be of real help in getting through life.

Our music leader once responded to atheist Ted Turner’s derogatory statement that Christians “use their faith as a crutch” that Jesus isn’t a crutch, He’s a stretcher! God is there for you – lean on Him.

The fact is that only as we admit our weakness and rely on the Lord will we be able to make it in this life.

Leaning on the Everlasting Arms,

Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
