I Only Want What Jesus Wants
“If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”
For some Christians ending their prayers with the phrase, “in Jesus’ name, amen,” is just an automatic salutation. In fact, it almost would appear to be a magic charm to some. But we must understand that nobody can force God’s hand by saying certain phrases.
Jesus reminded His followers that the only way to get things from the father is to request things that are consistent with what Jesus would want – I only should want what Jesus wants. When we pray, we should ask in faith believing that God is not only able but that by answering our prayer God would get glory. Obviously then, if I am asking God to do something that in His Word He has already warned against, would be inconsistent. When we bring our petitions to the Lord it is important to check our motives and our goals.
Scripture reminds…even implores God’s children to pray. But our motives must always be to glorify God.
