Fighting the Wrong Fight

"Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses."

1 Timothy 6:12

Dear Friends,

To be sure, the apostle Paul was a man who lived life at full tilt. He made it his lifelong goal to serve Christ and make the Gospel known. In so doing, he could with confidence say that he had fought the good fight. The good Apostle took occasion to caution his young Pastor friend, about the danger of getting pulled into a distracting love of money. He then exhorted him to be a good soldier and fight the good fight of faith, reminding him that the path that led to Heaven was not going to be a cakewalk.

It’s true – life is a struggle. If we're not fighting against the devil or the world we find ourselves battling our own flesh. Many of these fights have come uninvited right to our doorstep. But other battles, it would appear, we go out looking for! Life is often so fast-paced that we don't take time to actually consider what we’re fighting for. It would be a sad thing to finish life and realize we were on another course other than God's. We were fighting hard, but fighting the wrong fight!

Why not set aside some time this week to get alone with God and make sure in the goals you have in every area of your life – personal – relational – financial – vocational – that your primary focus is spiritual. Life is a fight but make sure you’re fighting a good fight.

Fighting for the Faith,

Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
