Have You Sold Your Birthright?

“And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.”
Genesis 25:33
Dear Friends,
In over 4+ decades of ministry, I have noticed that many people have “sold” their spiritual birthrights. What do I mean? Basically it means trading in God’s eternal plan of blessings for something temporal.
Consider the story of Jacob and Esau. Esau always took the easy road. Whenever there was a chance to be spiritual and godly, he said no. Whether his decisions were small or big, he gave up his heavenly birthright for a bowl of soup!
Anybody good sense can see the foolishness of Esau’s actions. But most of us don’t stop to consider the consequences of short-term solutions. Dr. Bob Jones used to say ‘Never sacrifice the future on the altar of the immediate.” If we would just take a moment and ask ourselves questions like – What is the wise choice? What will the consequences be? How will my decision affect my church life?
As painful as doing the hard thing might be in the short-term, the long-term benefits are amazing!
Have A Good And Godly Day,
Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
P.S. Why don’t you join us this Sunday morning at 10:30 AM for our new sermon series, “The Purpose of Our Trials”…I look forward to seeing you!
