The Sign of The Cross

“And you, being dead in your sins…having forgiven you all trespasses; …and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross”

Colossians 2:13, 14

Dear Friends,

Do you have a cross around your neck? Or maybe one affixed to the wall in your house? Many Christians display a cross in some way or another. And to that I say, “Way to go!”

Believers throughout the ages have chosen this as the sign of their faith. In fact, to remove the cross from our faith would leave nothing but a meaningless religion. And yet tragically, the subject of the blood of Christ has become unpopular in many churches because it is an unpleasant topic. We’d prefer to hear about the love of God, not the suffering of Jesus. But let me ask you this: How can anyone have his or her sins forgiven if Christ had not been crucified? According to Scripture there can be no forgiveness without the shedding of blood (Hebrews 9:22). Christ took away our sins – on a cross! Every time you display a cross, you are in effect thanking Jesus that He was willing to be crucified so the Father could forgive you. Like the old gospel song says, “the cross is my statue of liberty!

Staying Near the Cross,
