Focusing on what Matters to God
“For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;”
Learning to do anything well requires focus. An athlete will remind himself or herself to, “Keep your eyes on the ball.” In the same way, Christians need to keep their eye on the main thing.
Spiritual wisdom happens when a mind has trained itself to focus on what matters to God. Finding God’s direction and accepting it is what Paul, the great apostle, was praying for when he reminded the Colossians of his desire they might be, “filled with the knowledge of His will.”
In order to focus on what matters to God, a believer must see the world as God does – broken and in need of the gospel & the Word of God. Real wisdom and spiritual understanding, however, is not just knowing what God wants, but recognizing God’s promptings and then getting involved in His work.
Dear friend, let’s keep our eye on the spiritual ball by focusing on what matters to God.
Praying for Wisdom,
Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
