Why Do People Desert Us

"And they all forsook him, and fled."

Mark 14:50

Dear Friends,

Perhaps you’re facing a difficult time and you could really use some support. And yet one by one, your friends have fallen away. What was once just a challenge has become disillusioning pain.

Why do people desert us? Jesus’s closest friends deserted Him because they simply could not take the heat. Our Lord had never done anything to hurt them or to offend them and yet, in His time of greatest need, they walked out. Thank God that they came back and Jesus was very forgiving to have accepted them.

There are many possible reasons why people take a step back from us: some don’t like to watch others suffer; others frankly, are selfish and afraid of getting pulled down into your trouble, and still others may feel like they don’t have the resources to be there for you. What is our response to be? Forgiveness! We must understand that people are weak but God is great. Jesus prayed, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34).

Friend let’s try not and hold anything against anybody, just realize they are human. Purpose that when it comes time for you to stand with somebody, you won’t walk out on them.

Thanking God for A That Sticks Closer Than A Brother,

Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
