How Do You Treat People?

“Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst…”

John 4:13-14a

Dear Friends,

It is all too easy as we go through busyness of life, to neglect to treat people with attention and respect. A good example of someone who warmly acknowledged others was our Lord and Savior - Jesus Christ.

Consider the woman at the well as found in John 14. This was a woman who was not very accepted by society. She was a Samaritan, a woman, poor and had to work hard for anything she received. The fact that she came to draw water during the heat of the day when nobody else would be there shows how isolated she really was.

But what did Jesus do? He exhibited the love of God by greeting her and starting a conversation. As the raunchy details of her life came out our Lord didn’t soft pedal the truth about her need to be saved, but neither did He turn up His nose.

It seems like all too often, maybe because of the impersonal electronic world we increasingly live in, people are more rude and unkind than ever. Let us make sure that we exhibit the love of God like Jesus by being attentive and respectful to others who are around us.
