The Guarantees of Grace

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?”

Romans 6:1-2

Dear Friends,

Few truths in a Christian’s life are any more powerful than the wonder of God’s grace. Because of what Jesus suffered and accomplished on the cross, God the Father guarantees that because of grace, He will always greet us with compassion and forgiveness. Thank God that it is not our works or words that make us accepted by God – not our disposition but our position. God sees that we have Christ in our heart and He forgives us.

While it’s true that because of Jesus Christ we are forgiven, that certainly does not give us a license to sin. The amazing truth of God’s grace has tragically become an encouragement to sin in the lives of too many Christians. Some people go as far as to say that, in fact, the more we sin, the more that the grace of God is magnified. But that is theological mumbo-jumbo! The Apostle Paul is aghast that anybody would think such a thing (Romans 6:2)

In fact, because of God’s grace, there is all the more reason we should live for God, “For the grace of God…Teaching us that…we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world” (Titus 2:11, 12).

Thanking God for the Guarantees of Grace,

Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
