“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
The name of Jesus means different things to different people. Depending on who you are talking to, Jesus is a just name from history, a moral philosopher, prophet, or sadly, to some – a symbol of religious oppression. Yet to the Apostle Paul, myself and many throughout the world it is, “…a name which is above every name” (Philippians 2:9).
What is it about the name of Jesus? Why do people respond in such a diverse manner? It is because Jesus isn’t simply a person; His name represents something far more, a lifestyle and more…an eternal destiny! The highly exalted name, Jesus, means “Jehovah Saves” and represents all He is and all He does.
The Old and New Testament both identify Jesus as deity, the Son of God, equal to the Father. The Father has given Him an exalted name because as the God-man, His purpose was to save the human race. Because Jesus, as man lived a perfect life, He’s the only person in history qualified to pay the penalty of someone else’s sin. He secured the forgiveness for all who believe on Him.
One day, everybody will stand before Jesus not as a Savior but as a loving judge and only those who have accepted Him, as Savior will live with Him forever. Friend, today, during this holiday season, crown Him as King of your life. If you’ve never made the decision to pray the sinners prayer and receive the free gift of salvation, do so today and go to bed tonight rejoicing that in fact, He is not only King of kings and Lord of lords but He is your Savior.
The Sweetest Name I Know,
