Genuine Friends are Treasures

“A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

Proverbs 18:24

Dear Friends,

It is obvious from scripture, in fact from the very first verses in the book of Genesis, that the Lord created humans for meaningful relationships. But there is one thing that we must do if we are to have these quality friends – we must give love first. Solomon wisely counseled his son, “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly…” (Proverbs 18:24). It’s very difficult for a friendship to flourish if we live isolated and self-absorbed lives.

Acquaintances and casual friendships are nice, but they do not satisfy the deep need we have to love and be loved. Unfortunately, many people never experience anything deeper than surface relationships. This is why so many people feel so alone, even when surrounded by the masses of humanity. We must remember that great friendships don’t come magically but require diligent investment. The greatest place, of course, to build meaningful relationships, those deep ones that satisfy the heart, is in our homes and our churches.

Dear friend, invest in others – a man or woman that wants friends must be friendly! Aren’t we glad that we have one friend that will never fail us? The best friend anyone can have – the Lord Jesus Christ!

Your Friend,

Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
