True Freedom

“Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.”

Romans 6:18

Dear Friend,

According to the way the average American thinks today freedom means being able to act with few – if any – restraints or accountability. Our country today is awash with all kinds of sound bites that push a freedom for people to do whatever they please, whenever they please with no one telling them what to do. But according to God’s view this definition would actually constitute rebellion.

Are we really free when we rebel against restraint, or does true freedom mean something else? The first thing we need to do in order to achieve true freedom is to receive Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. Otherwise, we are in bondage to the sin of unbelief. Those who reject salvation through Christ do not trust God nor His promises, their eyes are blinded and they are actually, despite what they would say, a slave to their own sin.

According to the Apostle Paul true freedom only comes when we strive to be a servant of right things. Even Christians can find themselves in bondage through fear, worry, vices, insecurity, and even false guilt.

God wants us to be free from sin. Freedom’s road is walking in righteousness – true liberty that comes from God’s laws.
