Reality Shows
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”
Matthew 5:14
Dear Friends,
In recent years “reality television” has become quite popular. In these staged for TV shows, the world is invited into the daily lives of people, from the rich and famous to the eclectic and unique. In some cases, these programs are actually an encouraging look into the lives of some wonderful people. We often discover famous people are just like us with all of our strengths and weaknesses.
The fact is, as Believers, Jesus reminded us that every day, every Christian’s life is in fact – a reality show. It’s like a big bright city, open for everybody’s observation, “…a city that is set on an hill cannot be hid” (Matthew 5:14).
People watch us. Whether we realize it or not, people are always viewing our actions, sensing our attitudes and listening to the words that we say. Perhaps you have looked up from your place of work or at a coffee shop somewhere, only to see that somebody was looking at you. What happens in these brief moments is an example of what happens all the time. People are always watching us! We are to be reflecting Jesus Christ, as the light of the world, “Ye are the light of the world…” (Matthew 5:14).
When we feel strong and on top of the world, let’s be humble in our victories. And when the going gets tough, let’s be gracious in our dealings. Dear friend, always remember you are on a daily reality show – be the light!
Jesus is Our Light,
Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
